The
initiative petition has been drafted and we are requesting comment. It is
not yet available for signature gathering. We expect to be submitting the
finalized language to the Registrar of Voters for certification in several months. We
had targeted placement of the initiative petition onto the November 2002 ballot.
However, the events of September 11, 2001 and the restrictive laws enacted
thereafter have caused us to step back and ponder an even broader vision
of what a Public Defender must be. You are invited to join us in gathering signatures for this initiative petition after it has been certified. Please contact us if you are interested in doing so.
